Summary

The FrontPoint wireless home security system has been one of the most popular DIY systems of the last few years. It consistently rates as one of the best systems and gets a lot of positive reviews. To know whether the FrontPoint wireless home security system is right for you, you need to know how the system works and how it's going to keep you safe.

Most of the system’s features are already included in the basic description. Frontpoint’s system is a wireless home security system, and one of several you install yourself. Due to technological changes, installing a home security system is a lot easier than it was years ago. The self-install package comes with standard technology options for home security, but upgrades to higher-end options are also available. Such higher-end options include a touch screen control panel instead of the Simon.

Compared to other systems, Frontpoint focuses less on low pricing, and more on customer service and their technology. Setting up their system comes with a one-time fee or equipment costs, and after that, their service requires a monthly fee. Their monthly fee ranges from $35 to $50, with setup costs of either $99 (the cheapest package) to $199.93 (the middle and most extensive package).

Frontpoint is a great option for anyone looking for a DIY security system that offers proven technology and continually improves their experience. For those looking for the lowest price, Frontpoint is not a preferred option, as there are cheaper DIY wireless systems available.

Installation

When you receive your starter home security system from FrontPoint it will all come in one box. Inside you will find:

  • 1 Control Panel
  • 3 Door/Window Sensors
  • 1 Motion Sensor
  • Smoke Detector
  • Extra double sided adhesive for the sensors
  • Setup Guide and Manuals
  • Protected by FrontPoint Security stake

FrontPoint is a wireless system. The only wires you will find in this box are to power the Control Unit. One is the power cable that runs to standard electrical outlets, and the second is a small backup battery for when burglars cut power to your house. There are two control units available; a standard option and a touch screen option. Over the past year, FrontPoint has started switching from the standard option to a touch screen, but right now, both options are available under all plans.

To get your setup started you will need to choose where you want your main Control Unit to go. Because the rest of the system is completely wireless, you can choose just about anywhere in your house that is near an outlet. Once you have that plugged in, it's time to decide where you want your 3 door/window sensors to go, along with your motion sensor. Remove the film to reveal some adhesive, and stick them to your walls. Now all that's left is to go back to your control unit, turn everything on, and put in security codes.

Users have reported having their entire systems to be setup within 15 minutes of the package being delivered. It's truly that easy.

The more extensive packages come with additional sensors and options, such as image sensors, geo location services, or even motion activated video recording and HD and night vision capabilities. Another service not included in the starter pack is crash and smash protection, a technology that alerts the monitoring center when the control panel is destroyed.

Key Features

As already covered, a key feature that attracts many people is FrontPoint's completely wireless design. Not only does this make for extremely easy installation, but it also offers additional security compared to wired systems (as they depend on the wire being intact and in place). We'll cover this more under the Technology section, but in essence FrontPoint works over cellular signals (included with all plans) to deliver your home's security. This means that even if a burglar would cut your power, you still will receive total protection.

Beyond the ease of installation, one of the things that makes Frontpoint so appealing is its ability for customization and features beyond the starter package, and how easy it is to make these additions to your system. Some of these additional available features include: Unlimited Door, Window, and Motion Sensor capability, Lighting Control, Remote (iPhone, iPad, PC, etc.) System Control, Glass Break Sensors, Flood Sensors, Freeze Sensors, and Wireless Cameras.

On FrontPoint's end, they offer what they describe as "Redundant Central Monitoring Stations." This means that even in the event of a power outage, server crash, etc. on their end, they have numerous generators and backups in different locations to ensure that their service can never go down and leave their customers without protection.

Technology

As noted earlier, FrontPoint works on cellular signals to provide your home with completely wireless protection. Unlike most modern home alarm systems, which will either provide coverage based on LAN/broadband or phone line connections, FrontPoint has secured contracts with the major cellular providers in America to give their customers total coverage. You just tell FrontPoint which company gives you the best coverage at your house and they will include the appropriate card for your Control Unit with your order.

FrontPoint also is on the cutting edge of remote management technology. Included with every subscription package besides the most basic, you will be able to control your entire system from the convenience of your Mac, iPhone, iPad, PC, and numerous other devices from anywhere with an Internet connection. This enables you to arm your house, turn on/off your lights, set off an emergency alarm, and so much more from just about anywhere in the world

Our Experience

After weeks of using this system, we'd have to say our experience falls in line with just about every review we read. The bottom line is that FrontPoint is on the cutting edge of both home protection and alarm technology. The ease of installation, convenient & remote management, and total coverage regardless of any destruction at either our residence or the FrontPoint headquarters make this a near unbeatable solution for home safety. On top of this, FrontPoint customer service has been extremely responsive and helpful with any questions or concerns we had, and upgrading our system through them was an absolute breeze. FrontPoint is so confident in their services that they also provide a 30-day money back guarantee on all their services and packages. This is a huge plus in our eyes.

We have total confidence that FrontPoint will be able to keep us safe and get the police immediately dispatched in any sort of emergency scenario.

I was looking for an alarm system with cellular technology and did internet research based on the cost of cellular-based security systems, Frontpoint was rated number one on various sites. Installation was really simple and went like a breeze. Frontpoint gave all the sticky stuff to make the two fire alarms, motion sensor, and all the door sensors stick to the wall. Everything is still held up there.
It's always been a great service. I appreciated the severity of the situation but I also appreciated that they immediately didn’t call the fire department and called us first so that the situation didn’t get any more embarrassing than it had to be. I’d recommend Frontpoint to anybody.

I have Frontpoint for a little over a year and everything went really easy. Dealing with anyone at Frontpoint have been great. I use their interactive features, such as arming or disarming the device from my app all the time and it's awesome. That's pretty much 100% how we do it. Once in awhile, I will do it from the base, but it's way easier to do it from my phone. I work nightshift so it makes me feel better that I can use it all the time.

The install was very easy. It took me about 45 minutes to do it. I had issues later on with one of the sensors on the metal door but they sent me a new adhesive which fixed it right away. I love their app on my iPhone and it's part of the reason why I chose them. It's a really clean and an elegant app. I have also called them when I accidentally set my alarm off a couple of times and they're very responsive. Since using Frontpoint, our sense of security has improved. We have children and if I or my wife’s away, it gives us both peace of mind. I'm happy with the service.

I've used Frontpoint for two years. Setting it up was all good and I use their app regularly. It's the only way we're able to use it and I've thought of going online as well with the geo thing on. I also got no issues with their guys. Everyone was able to make up for my issues when I called in. Having Frontpoint gives me a sense of security. If something would have happened, I'd have the feeling of safety because the alarm is there and they respond quickly

I lost my husband and we live in the country. My daughter-in-law looked up online and researched for me, and Frontpoint was the highest rated provider. I looked at 3 or 4 companies but Frontpoint turned out to be the first people I called and they looked like they're the best deal and the easiest to manage so I decided to go with them. I did all the installation myself and it was easy. I love the app - if I forget to turn the system on before I leave, I can get it on. I felt safer with Frontpoint since I am the only one staying at our house. It gave me peace of mind. Every single time I called them, they gave me immediate answers and walked me through. They’re very attentive to making sure the customer is first and foremost. Frontpoint has been outstanding.

I did some research and Frontpoint was one of the main providers, so I picked it from others. It's very easy to set the stuff they sent to install. No big deal. I also use their mobile app as I arm and disarm the alarm all the time with it. I never had problems before, but I used to talk with Philomena which is the person that I always contact and she's amazing. Since we have it we feel safer now and that's the objective of a security system. Even when the neighborhood is not a dangerous neighborhood but still, it's good to have it and I feel more confident with it, so far it's working fine. A couple of times by mistake it was activated and the response was good. I have no complaints.

I've been using Frontpoint for around a year already and every interaction that I've had with them has been fine. They had to replace a couple of the units that they sent me with no problems whatsoever. And they seem to be very friendly and easy to interact with. Installing the security device was fairly easy for me since I'm comfortable with electronics, technology and stuff. It pretty much has handled what I needed it for and certainly I feel very secure that I'm not sure there is any better services out there.

I definitely have peace of mind having Frontpoint. I like being able to arm it from my phone through their app - that's a great feature and that was one of the things that attracted me to them. Also, it was easier to install. My previous system is wired and involves more hands-on setup and a technician while Frontpoint is self-installed. I'd also compliment them for their good customer service when I had to call a couple of times. They fixed some issues so everything was really easy to deal with. Having Frontpoint has definitely made me feel more secure
