For years, the home security industry was all about professional installations that left the homeowner to worry about nothing. Presently, one of the most popular trends in the industry is do-it-yourself installations, but some homeowners would rather see their systems installed by a professional. There are still companies out there that provide complete service for all your home protection needs and one of the most recognizable of these companies in the world of home protection is ADT. This is a company that we have extensive experience with and a company that we are happy to review as it is one of the best all-around regardless of what your needs are.

Summary

ADT is the best-known home security company in the world, but the debate still rages on as to whether they are the most trusted. It is one of the companies that we trust most for our family’s security and with zero upfront costs including activation and installation on some products they are making it easy for those looking to add a security system to their home to choose them.

As a whole, ADT is the home security company that has extensive experience, remarkable technological products, and has customer service agents ready 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can rest easy at all times that your home, property, and possessions will be safe when you have the ADT seal on your home. The company offers a wide array of products and services from video surveillance, wireless security, and flood monitoring, to remote access and garage doors that open from anywhere in the world. With so many available options, ADT truly does have something for everyone and all their needs.

ADT offers new customers the option of selecting three different plans for home security: traditional ($36.99), remote ($42.99), and video ($44.99). Since recently, ADT’s medical alert systems are offered separately.

Key Features & Technology

One of the biggest positive points for owning an ADT system is the wide array of technological advancements that cover you on every possible option. There are six different types of features that ADT boasts about as they attempt to stake claim to being the top company in the industry and try to set themselves apart from the rest. Those options include remote arming and disarming of the system, controlling thermostats, locking doors, allowing access to live video, turn on and off lights, and setting up different types of modes ranging from vacation to sleeping. While they aren't the only company that has these products, they still provide the homeowner with a certain level of comfort.

These features aren't all that ADT offers their new customers and one feature we enjoy is their new garage door controller. From anywhere in the world, you can open and close your garage door, as well as be alerted to any activity. This feature can also be aligned with their state of the art ADT Pulse Technology. This new feature is something that ADT determined their customers had a need for since families are always on the go and busy lives can lead to forgetting to shut the garage door. With this new feature, you will never need to worry about this again and can shut it from your smart phone.

Depending on which ADT security package you get for your home, you may need to have a landline installed. The ADT monitored Essential and Essential Plus packages require a landline for use, while the ADT monitored Premium CellGuard, Expanded CellGuard, and Two-Way Voice Package can be used with cellular phones. When it comes to remotely accessing your ADT home security system, you can do so from the comfort of your cell phone, but there are also remote controls that includes a panic button, arming and disarming of the system, recessed buttons that prevent accidental activation, and the ability to activate the panic alarm by pressing both top buttons at the same time.

Installation

ADT systems are installed fully by their trained professionals, leaving little worry on your end. With the newest advancements in the do it yourself security business, this is something that some companies are trying to rid themselves of, but ADT is still one of the market leaders.

With some of their packages, installation is included with the purchase of the contract. Not only will the installation of your purchase be completed by a trained professional, it will be done so in a timely manner and the time with your installer will allow you to have any questions you may have about your new system answered immediately. Installation dates can be determined as soon as your order your system and in some cases, same day service can be attained. With your installation, the technician will install the key components including keypad, motion detectors, and entryway detectors.

Our Experience

From day one when my family made the decision to join with ADT for our home security, I have been impressed. Their customer service representative was great when I called to inquire about pricing. The agent wasn't pushy about making me purchase a system and that made me feel comfortable enough to order a Home Automation system with ADT Pulse Technology. The install technician hooked the system up quickly and answered all my questions. My favorite feature with the ADT system is the addition of the garage door controller. As someone who has left their door open before, this was an added bonus for me in the purchase of the system.

However, there have been some times that the customer service received has not been what I expected. There have been times when I would call and would just get transferred from one agent to another as they attempted to figure out the problems with my sensors, but still to no avail. Customer service is something that they have been hit or miss on, so just hope it isn't anything crucial if you need to call.

I’ve had ADT for 4mos. I’ve had no problems with the equipment. I had to call them back after the initial install to correctly label the sensors. The rep who came was very helpful and accommodating. My ADT system gives me piece of mine.
If my goes off, they are quickly responsive. Once it went off because I forgot it was on and walked out the door without turning it off. I left the door ajar while on the back of my house. The next thing I knew a cop was approaching me. He had received the alarm that the back door sensor was not cleared. The cop had checked my entire house inside before realizing I was on the back of the house. I felt the ADT system worked. My only concern is the cost of the equipment. But it is transferable if you move.

Signed with ADT in 2011 with land line. ADT did not like my switch to VOIP and put in cellular link. Persistent communication failures started in 2014. Repeated service calls failed to correct. Cellular contact finally failed in whole area, Cancelled all service with ADT 12/14, Service very slow (2-3 week wait) and costly
