Although SimpliSafe is (as the name accurately implies) both user-friendly and highly effective, cost efficiency is really where SimpliSafe shines amongst its competitors. The company saves customers money by doing away with long-term contracts and reducing the cost of upfront installation fees.
Their basic monthly plan starts at just $14.99, which when compared to other major home security companies, is extremely reasonable for the quality of service they provide. They offer pay-as-you-go plans so you can stop and restart your service any time you like. This is a lot more convenient than other companies that require that you tie yourself to lengthy contracts of a year or more.
The initial startup cost is honestly one of the few drawbacks associated with SimpliSafe. Depending on your individual needs, you can expect to spend between $250 to $550 in upfront equipment costs, which is substantially more than the startup costs with other home security companies.
Nothing could be more important than protecting the people and things you cherish most. One of the most effective ways of doing this is by investing in a home security system. Although it's an extremely important endeavor, attempting to research home security system providers is a daunting task. There is a lot of information available online and sorting through it all can easily become overwhelming.
SimpliSafe is recommended by many of the top media outlets in the United States, including Fox News, ABC, NBC, Good Housekeeping, The New York Times and Fortune (among many others). Having achieved an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, it's hard to find things not to love about SimpliSafe.
The ease of installation with SimpliSafe is unrivaled in the industry—and because this simple setup is done entirely by the consumer, there are also no costly installation charges. A lot of people who are less than tech-savvy might shudder at the thought of DIY installation, but SimpliSafe's setup could not possibly be any easier.
The equipment arrives at your door preprogrammed and ready to be installed. The entire installation process takes less than fifteen minutes and is nearly fool-proof.
The 24/7 live monitoring provided by SimpliSafe was recently named Best Monitoring in the Industry by the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA). SimpliSafe's coverage is 100% cellular and provided through the major carriers Verizon and T-mobile. This helped me feel more at ease knowing that they had partnered with such reputable companies to provide service that would not face the same interruptions as systems that operate on a landline phone.
As with just about every other aspect of SimpliSafe's service, there is money to be saved here too – the other major home security companies charge up to $40 a month extra for cellular-based monitoring. Through SimpliSafe, cellular-based monitoring is free!
With SimpliSafe, you choose between three different monitoring options: standard ($14.99), interactive ($24.99), or none at all.
The standard option gives you the around-the-clock remote monitoring and will alert authorities when an emergency arises. Their interactive option also gives you text alerts, remote access to your system, and provides additional notifications for family members, such as alerts when someone opens a desk drawer with private files or even the liquor cabinet.
Unlike many of the company's competitors, SimpliSafe doesn't require you to pay for a monitoring plan. If you choose not to, your alarm will just be local, instead of contacting the monitoring center. If a burglar breaks in, you'll have to hope that just the sound of your alarm will do enough to keep burglars out.
After you've chosen your monitoring plan on the website, you select the equipment you want. There are five available packages, ranging from $229 to $509. Alternatively, you can customize the equipment to fit your home. The most extensive package includes a lot of extra services aside from just focusing on home intruders. It comes with a key fob, 4 entry sensors, 2 motion sensors, a siren, a smoke detector, a water sensor, a freeze sensor, and a panic button.
Because they use advanced photoelectric sensors, you're also less likely to encounter frustrating false alarms. In the event of a fire, the detector is equipped with its own internal siren that will sound loudly, waking you up from even the deepest sleep.
On top of this, they also have sensors to notify you immediately if there is a water leakage or drastic change in temperature within your home, as well as a motion sensor that picks up any suspicious movement within your home. SimpliSafe's sensors also offer a useful safeguard against false alarms caused by pets; pets under fifty pounds are unlikely to trigger the alarms—especially when the sensors are placed several feet off the floor.
The most basic package includes all that you'll need for startup, but should you require extra sensors or equipment, you can order them individually. While these extras are not included in the package price, at $29.99 in comparison to the larger competitors' cost of $79.99 and up, it's a small price to pay.
One of SimpliSafe's previous weaknesses was the lack of video cameras or a video monitoring system. However, the company recently added a video doorbell and indoor video cameras to their offerings, putting their equipment in-line with that of their competitors. Finally, the company now offers home automation options for those with Google Home devices.
SimpliSafe offers two different monitoring plans for customers interested in professional 24/7 monitoring of their property.
The Standard plan is the company's bare-bones approach to home security monitoring. For $14.99 a month, customers can have their home's door sensors, motion detectors, and environmental monitoring overseen by a professional at SimpliSafe's headquarters. However, the plan does not come with video monitoring, home automation capabilities, or mobile access.
The Interactive plan is SimpliSafe's premium offering. Customers pay $24.99 a month to receive the company's standard professional monitoring, in addition to video cameras and professional video monitoring. Users can also access their home's live video feed using a smartphone app. Finally, the interactive plan allows consumers to sync their home security system with their existing home automation technology.
SimpliSafe's Foundation package truly is a starter plan. It comes with all the basics, but nothing more. The package includes a base station, a wireless keypad, a motion sensor, and an entry sensor.
The Essentials package is almost the same as The Foundation package but includes two extra entry sensors enabling it to covers more doors or windows.
The Hearth package offers two extra features compared to The Essentials package. In this package, you also get three sensors, but on top of that, it comes with a screeching-loud siren and a smoke detector for extra security and safety.
The Knox package looks a lot like The Hearth package but packs a lot more sensors. It comes with two motion sensors instead of one, and double the number of entry sensors, for a total of six.
Guard your house against all sorts of emergencies, not just those that require a siren. The Haven package includes a carbon monoxide detector, a water sensor, a freeze sensor, a panic button, and everything that is offered in The Knox package.
Overall, we are extremely happy with the quality of service we have received with SimpliSafe from day one. After looking at what the other major companies were offering and comparing them against SimpliSafe's product, it's clear to see that you are getting at least the same quality of service for a fraction of the cost.
As someone who is not technologically inclined, I find the ease of installation and use refreshing. There is no stressing over user manuals or long, frustrating hours spent trying to figure out how the basics of the system work. I love the comfort that comes with knowing my family is protected while only spending a small portion of what my friends and family spend each month for the same quality of service with the more well-known companies.
It's also refreshing to note that I have never had a problem dealing with SimpliSafe's customer service. They have always been extremely attentive and prompt in addressing any needs or concerns I have had.
